We will never forget how our own Government “locked us down” over Covid, imposing harsh measures that controlled almost every part of our lives, and causing huge damage. This must never happen again.
In light of this, I’m writing to raise serious concerns about the new changes to the World Health Organization’s International Health Regulations (IHRs) and what they could mean for the UK.
We have until 19 July 2025 to opt out of these changes. If we don’t, they will automatically take effect in September. We ask you to opt out to protect the nation's ability to make its own decisions.
These changes would give the WHO more influence to guide and coordinate how countries respond to perceived health emergencies. Even if these powers are technically just “recommendations,” we’ve seen before how their advice encouraged damaging lockdowns, mandates and other restrictions. The last thing we need is to give the WHO even more say in our national policies.
Yes, decisions still rest with Westminster on paper - but the WHO’s growing influence risks undermining our ability to choose what’s right for the British people. After Covid, the WHO doesn’t deserve more influence; it deserves more scrutiny. The WHO’s poor judgment, political nature, and questionable funding arrangements have been revealed.
Our country should be reviewing how much influence this organisation should have over us. Both the United States and Argentina have already started pulling away from the WHO.
At minimum, we should opt out of these new IHR changes. Decisions about our health and freedoms - and responsibility for them - must stay with our elected government, not with outside organisations we don’t vote for or control.
Please stand up for our country's ability to make its own health decisions and ensure we opt out of the IHRs by 19 July 2025.
